GeoBlog, an Interactive Travel Album

by Bron Skinner 22. October 2009 11:02
I've put the RPG bit on hold as a application request from an old friend has me interested in building what I've labeled GeoBlog. Essentially the project (a Silverlight application of course), will allow users to create an account and manage albums of travel locations. Each location will (hopefully) allow them to either redirect users to an url containing post data (as well as contain a slug and thumb for the location), or perhaps an entry contained within the Silverlight app itself.

The only problem with keeping the entry data in the application conscerns markup. I'll have to look at dotnetnuke (I think it's called) or some similair translation tool allowing html markup to be translated to XAML. Onward - each album will contain a number of pins (actual little pins stuck in a map) that represent a location. The map itself will load from a global collection of maps for different regions of the world..or perhaps I'll just use a single huge image of the globe. I'm using Silverlight's Deep Zoom technology in conjunction with emulated 3D manipulation to create an interactable twistable, pannable, zoomable map. Users can mouseover pins (points) of interest, or view a listing of applicable points (thinking of some sort of side nav control that uses a breakdown of the globe in regions and specifies points per region as well as providing a quick pan method.

The idea is still in the planning stages more or less. I'll post more information once I've got something to show.

Thank you for another great article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I am on the look for such information.
